Beauty Talk With Lauren - Life Update

Hi guys,

I have been the biggest dick ever and not posted anything on this blog since the 1st January, and let’s face it, that was a scheduled post. I just really wanted to check in and catch up as I have missed sitting down and taking some time out to do what I do best, talk shite!

I’m not going to be Negative Nancy (however that is ok regardless of what twitter tells me) but I have been so stressed this year and its only mid-February!! I am just dying for some time off to have a few hours to myself where I dont have to worry about work or uni.

Slimming world has been an absolute bastard. I have said every week that I would start back and be really good. It’s now four months later and am wondering why I look like the side of a bus but here goes attempt number three. I’ve lost one stone in four weeks which I canny quite believe. I have two weeks in Portugal booked with Liam’s family in May and I cannot be this size when I go as I nearly had a fit on the plane last year when I thought I needed a seat belt extender. No offence to anyone who does, but I felt so uncomfortable last year and the year before due to my weight and I need to work hard to get it off pronto. I’ve also got my graduation in July and I want to look and feel nice, not for anyone else, but myself. I legit nearly welled up there typing about my graduation. I.AM.SO.EXCITED.

Both myself and Liam decided to finally start saving for a deposit for a mortgage so we gave up our little flat and moved back in with our parents to give us the incentive to do it. I don’t know about you, but at 30+ years old I did not expect to be back living with family, especially not in a house that contained an over excited five year old who thinks it’s acceptable to scream at the top of her lungs, when granny over here is trying to sleep at 9pm. I didn’t think I could justify punching a five year old... until now. It’s something we have spoken about for years, the house, not punching children you'll be glad to know, but with Uni and other things that life threw us from time to time, however come April I will no longer be a student which means we can focus on becoming adults and stepping onto that ridiculously expensive property ladder. Then comes the marriage and the baby in the golden carriage, or minus the carriage in fact!

Oh, I forgot I also went up to Perth at the weekend as Liam was back home for a weekend before going back offshore again and I have to say, Perth has got some hidden gems in the way of food. We stayed in the Mercure which was pleasant enough, however the £25 for two rolls and sausage and two shots of orange juice were scandalous. When I say shots, I legit mean shot glasses of orange juice but regardless of that, we went to a gorgeous little place called Breizh Restaurant which is a French restaurant and is simply stunning. The decor is quite minimal but the massive picture of Brigitte Bardot in the window sold me. I had fresh oysters to start while Liam had confit duck leg and they were sublime. We also went for steaks which were obviously cooked to perfection. The next night we found ourselves at another French restaurant called Cafe Tabou, I was flabbergasted, I honestly felt like I was in France. It was so romantic with its dark red setting and the atmosphere was lovely as well as the staff. The food was also out of this world. So if you are ever in Perth, I would highly recommend these two places.

Like I said, Liam is back offshore until the end of the month and he is only back for another weekend *insert crying emoji*. It’s horrible being with someone for eight years and going from living with each other to only seeing each other for one weekend a month! How the hell do these long distance relationships survive??? I have obviously booked another wee hotel for us to chill out and relax *wink wink* so hopefully that cheers him up.

So that’s all. It doesn’t sound much, but to be honest, I’ve not been doing anything other than reading all things accountancy and burying my face in my slimming world book so it might sound boring as fuck, for that I apologise, but I am one boring bastard nowadays ha-ha. Hurry up April, I am ready when you are.

My Yearly Favourites

2016 Beauty Favourites

Hi guys

Happy New Year!!!! I hope your head doesn't hurt too much today ha-ha.

I say it every year, but I cannot believe how quickly this year went and I also can't believe everything that happened in 2016. It felt like the year that every music legend was taken, there was numerous atrocities all over the world and there were some very important issues highlighted which will hopefully be the beginning of something very special. I also can't forget the UK voted to leave the EU, Donald Trump is the President of the USA with Nigel Farage being an unofficial spokesperson for Britain and Marmite almost caused a rammy in our local supermarkets! But lets leave all that behind, this post isn't meant to be heavy at all, I just couldn't believe the things that have happened and I wanted to reminisce. This post however, is all about beauty.

I thought I would put together a favourite’s post today featuring all of my favourites of 2016 and I have categorised them into makeup, skincare, bath and brushes. There isn’t a lot of products to be honest and there are a few surprises in there as I didn’t expect to like them as much as I did. I have linked some of these to the original reviews if you want to check them out but I will have reviews up for the rest of them in 2017. I hope you enjoy.

Tony Moly I'm Real Sheet Masks

Hi guys,

After a harrowing week last week, I lost all my uni work from my pen drive and laptop including my dissertation and an essay, i've decided to chill today. No need to worry though as I managed to get some of my dissertation notes from my supervisor who I thankfully emailed a couple of days before but I had to start my essay from the beginning again which annoyed me as it was almost finished! A break is very much needed ha-ha.

Today its mine and Liam's eight year anniversary and my sisters birthday so we are going to a wee family meal and then grabbing some drinks later on tonight with Liam which should be nice. As i'm off the wine for the foreseeable future, I have to try and find something to drink which I actually like. First world problems eh? I cant believe its been eight years though, sometimes it feels like thirty and other times it feels like a couple of months! Anyway, thought I would give you a wee update but lets move on shall we.

One of the hottest, albeit unattractive skincare trends to come our way has been the sheet mask and I am no stranger to it. I have used numerous sheet masks over the last couple of years and still think Timeless Truth offer some of the best. But, I spotted Tony Moly Sheet Masks (£6) on Cult a few months ago and decided to give them a shot due to their eye catching packaging. I have been using these for a while now and have honestly loved them.

At £6 a pop, they aren’t cheap when you want to buy all of them together, but if you buy a few at a time it’s not so bad.  There is a wide range of sheet masks ranging from Skin Purifying to Pore Care to Moisturising so they have a little something for everyone. After I bought them separately from Cult, I noticed Amazon had all of them for £11 including free delivery, which makes it £1 per mask. I am a little sceptical when it comes to buying cheap known brands from Ebay or Amazon but these are the exact same as my Cult ones so I know they aren't fakes. I have since bought another 3 boxes from Amazon!

There are three layers to most of these cotton mask excluding the brightening one which only has two. This type of mask helps the product penetrate the skin better. They are either water, emulsion or milky based but I will give you a rundown as we get into each one. Water based masks are highly moisturising. Emulsion based masks supply water and oils into your skin which absorb quickly while the milky based ones give your skin much needed nutrition.

It is recommended to leave them for 20 to 30 minutes but I leave them on for about 40 to 50 minutes while I watch an episode of Gilmore Girls or Sex and the City (for the millionth time) or read a book as I like it to soak into my pores and give my skin the best treatment. Once I remove, the mask is quite dry to the touch so I know the product has really absorbed into my skin. All of the masks are paraben, talc, benzophenone, ethanol amine tray and tar colour free for anyone who is on a need to know basis. I have sensitive skin and I haven't suffered any side effects with these masks with the odd exception. Im only going to talk about five of these masks today as I have used these about four times each so I feel I can give my honest opinion with them. Once I have used all of the others, I will do a part 2.

Tony Moly I'm Real Red Wine Mask Sheet

Tony Moly I'm Real Red Wine Mask Sheet - Pore Care (Emulsion)
Every time I use this my oily/sensitive skin has thanked me. It is infused with real red wine extracts (my kind of mask!), jasmine, green tea and rosemary to tackle enlarged pores but it also helps to tighten the skin. I didn't notice a strong fragrance from this mask, I was slightly disappointed that it didn't smell of wine if im being honest but it worked so that's the main thing. After each use, my skin felt super hydrated and looked healthier but I didn't notice my pores feeling tighter (I didn't believe that for a second). A great mask for hydration but not so much for pores.

Tony Moly I'm Real Seaweed Mask Sheet

Tony Moly I'm Real Seaweed Mask Sheet - Skin Purifying (Emulsion)
This mask if for troublesome skin which is supposed to help clear your skin. I didn't get that at all from this. Infact, my skin felt incredibly itchy once applied and I felt it was irritating me. I loved the cooling factor of this but I have to say, its not my favourite due to the irritating factor.

Tony Moly I'm Real Aloe Mask Sheet

Tony Moly I'm Real Aloe Mask Sheet - Moisturizing (Water)
This sheet mask is perfect for all skin types and is infused with aloe vera and bamboo juice which helps to moisturize, calm, and soothe sensitive skin. I love this mask. It does exactly what it says it will. I have used this four times now and each time my skin felt incredible. Do you know on those rare days when we have sunshine in the UK, well this would be amazing for the day after if you have caught a little sun and your skin feels a little dry. It will also be a staple in my bathroom this winter as my skin gets so dry during the colder months. I also think it would be amazing for a long haul flight as we all know how our skin feels after all that recycled air has its way.

Tony Moly I'm Real Tea Tree Mask Sheet

Tony Moly I'm Real Tea Tree Mask Sheet - Skin Soothing (Water)
Okay, this has to be my favourite. I am obsessed with tea tree oil as it helps with blemish prone skin and it also helps to soothe skin too hence the reason this is a skin soothing mask. Duh Lauren! This is infused with green tea leaf extract which tones down any redness and calms inflammation. Along with tea tree and green tea, it contains lemon which brightens and rosemary & jasmine both of which help to sooth. I found this mask to be very cooling. If you have any issues with blemishes, then I would pick up a few of these and use two or three times to help combat the problem. I normally pop one of these on if my skin is feeling a little groggy and when I can feel a spot niggling away under my skin and it works like magic.

Tony Moly I'm Real Lemon Mask Sheet

Tony Moly I'm Real Lemon Mask Sheet - Brightening (Water)
This is the only mask within the collection that contains two sheets rather than three. It is infused with the glorious lemon along with other citrus fruit extracts which help to rejuvenate and brighten dull skin. What I love most about this is the glow it gives my skin. Even after one use, my skin was exuding radiance. It’s not so great with hydration but honestly, if all you are looking for is brighter, clearer, glowy skin, then this is the one for you.

Have you tried these masks?
What other sheet masks would you recommend? help a sista out!

Cheating Partners and My Personal Experiences

Hi guys,

I thought I would go quite dark today and talk about cheating. If you haven’t been cheated on, I salute you, you have managed to stay clear of the vermin out there who think its ok to sleep about behind your back and not even have the decency to apologise for it.

The reason behind this post is simply the fact that I have been talking to a few of my friends and Uni pals recently about being in a relationship with someone who has cheated and hearing their stories were awful. I, myself have been in three very short term relationships before I met Liam that resulted in cheating and it was such a horrible feeling, especially as I was young and it could have impacted me in a different way or made me feel a certain way about myself, but it didn’t thankfully. This is my personal feelings and stories, I'm not saying this is how you should act or behave as we are all different and deal with things in different ways.

I am old school when it comes to cheating. If you are in a relationship with someone or have made it exclusive, then I don’t want to hear about you going on dates with anyone else, I don’t want to see you flirting or checking out girls while I am in your company. If you are receiving or giving oral sex, hand jobs, having some good old fashioned sex, dishing out some light finger duties or entering into an emotional relationship with someone, then you are in fact cheating. Same as kissing, that is a massive no-no in my book. I am also in the mind that if you are having conversations with someone online, emails, texts or sliding into DMs and you can’t show your partner, then this is classed as cheating. This may be different with every person, you may think that certain aspects of this are not cheating but I think they all are.

The first time someone cheated on me was straight out of high school. Looking back, I feel like I was pushed into a relationship with this guy as all my friends were dating older boys and were losing their virginity and I was constantly being slagged off for not dropping my drawers for the first boy who took my fancy. I didn’t want to give it up to just anyone and I seriously wish I had waited longer as they guy I lost it to was a first class dick. I’m not going to go into specifics as it still hurts, 15 years later, but after taking my virginity he then went onto to sleep with someone very close to me. After I found out about it, I was devastated, not because he cheated on me, I couldn't have cared less about him, but the fact that he had done it with someone as close to me as that, was heart breaking.

It’s funny, because after that, he slept with another two of my closest friends, who by the way were there when he slept with the other person and condemned him for it. These were people I had known since I was five years old. It was like taking a knife and sticking it in even deeper. Each of them couldn't wait to tell me about it, like they were gloating and that made it even worse. One girl said she had been in love with him while I was with him and didn't think what he did was that bad! Really!! Needless to say, we haven't spoken to each other since.

Broken Hearted

The second one was a guy who I met while I worked in my old hairdressers. I think I was 17 or 18, I can’t remember but I was feeling like an independent woman. I had my own flat, a good job, my own money and was having the time of my life. I then met the most stunning man I had ever seen (at that point) and we hit it off straight away. I think he played football for some shite team in Glasgow but I was smitten from the moment I saw him. We went out a few times and seemed to have some serious flanter, he even called me his girlfriend when we met up with some of his friends one night, and so as far as I was concerned, we were together. It was short lived though, as my friend told me about him winching the face off another girl in her local pub and disappearing round the back of the building with her (I think we all know what was going on there). I was devastated as I really really liked him and I thought he felt the same. I hadn’t slept with him yet so I instantly thought that was the reason for his little dalliance until I realised it was a good thing. If that’s all he wanted then he wasn’t worth the effort on my part. I only saw him once after that and he couldn’t understand why I didn’t talk to him until he saw my friend. His face was a picture.

The third and final time I was cheated on was by a tall, dark and handsome guy I had known since I was a teenager. We were seeing each other for a few months and then one day I heard a chap on my door. A girl who was about two or three years younger than me had dragged her “friend” to my door to tell me she had been sleeping with Mark. Apparently they met at a party and had been seeing each other behind my back for a few weeks and she was “so so sorry!” the usual shit. I have to admire her, I wouldn’t have done that, but then I wouldn’t have slept with someone who I knew had a girlfriend either.  I hated him after that, he gave me all the chat and because he was so bloody charming I couldn’t help but fall for it again. It only lasted a few days before I heard of another girl he had been sleeping with. This one was the worst out of the bunch. I really liked him and thought he was brilliant, but it wasn't meant to be. The only thing I miss about him is his friendship, he was really funny and made me laugh so much, plus he would always get on my bus in the morning and walk me to work which I thought was sweet. Doesn’t take away the fact he was a cheating bastard right enough.

So there we have it, three cheating disasters. This put me off men for a long time actually. My last relationship was when I was 19, after that I moved to London and didn’t bother with anyone apart from one sweet guy Darren. It was never gonna work as he lived up North and was only ever in London for short periods of time. When I came back to Glasgow, I was single until I was 23, that's when Liam rolled up. We've been together eight years, come 28th November, and I am happy that he hasn’t cheated on me.

We made it very clear to each other where we stood with cheating and I was happy he felt the same way. He hasn’t been with anyone who has cheated on him, and he hasn't cheated on anyone and I think its because his dad instilled good values in him. Although, never say never eh?

A personal note for anyone who has been cheated on and are devastated by it. Don’t allow anyone to dim your light. It’s not your fault, it’s theirs. Don’t think that you should have slept with them sooner, slept with them later, gone out with them more often or changed your personality to suit them, they were always going to cheat. Also, don’t allow it to affect future relationships, that was then and your new relationship is now.

I hope you have liked this very personal post. It’s taken a few months to get this out and I am somewhat glad I done it and shared my stories with you. I haven’t allowed these three idiots to affect me or allowed it to change my personality, I have continued being me and will always be me. I am now in a great relationship with someone who I could kill sometimes as he is annoying AF but at least I know where I stand with him, and him with me.

Have you ever been cheated on?
Are you over it?
Do you think you will ever forgive them?
Would you take them back?

My Christmas Wish List

Christmas Wish List - Beauty Talk With Lauren

Hi guys,

I thought I would put together my Christmas Wish List today. I haven’t been lusting after many makeup items but I am all over home comforts this year such as bath products, skincare, pyjamas and candles. I have added a few beauty items too so don’t worry. This isn’t a huge expensive wish list, infact the majority of items are under £30 so there’s something for everyone, even if it’s little stocking fillers for that special someone in your life.

It’s not really Christmas until there are a few Lush items stashed away in your bathroom but seen as I went a little crazy in a recent haul, I decided to go for A French Kiss Bubble Bar (£4.25) as it is just beautiful and relaxing. I have been so stressed out with Uni for the past couple of months and as it’s my honours year, I really want to get good marks and leave with a worthy grade at the end of the year but putting that kind of pressure on myself is not good so that’s where I am relying on Lavender scented products to sort me out! I also spotted the Kind Natured Sea Salt & Bergamot Bath Soak (£4.99) in Boots and wanted to try it out. As you know I am a bergamot fiend so anything with this fragrance is a winner. As I love my baths so much, I wanted a new Bath Pillow (£7.99) as my Soap and Glory one burst L and to round off this virtual pamper session, I thought I would add in the Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Mud Mask (£8.99) as it sounds amazing, plus its orange and bergamot scented... aye, I know, I told you, it’s my all-time favourite ha-ha.

I have been taking real good care of my nails due to the fact that acryllics have completely destroyed them, but after trying the Essie Autumn polishes and liking them so much due to their staying power and beautiful colour selection, I thought I would add in their new Essie Winter Collection Nail Polishes (£7.99), especially in the shades Oh Behave, Party on a Platform and Getting Groovy as these look right up my street.

I am rubbish at applying false lashes but I find the Ardell False Lashes (£8.99) super easy to work with and they create a striking look without causing any irritation, unlike most false lashes. I have the Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick (£16) in Lolita and Double Dare in my sights so I think it’s about time I picked these up or some kind soul bought me one for my Christmas ha-ha. I have the shade Outlaw which is the most magnificent red I have ever tried plus the staying power and pigmentation is incredible.

Unicorn Pyjamas

It’s not Christmas without some comfys. Like most girls, I adore pyjamas, slippers, scarves, gloves and dressing gowns at this time of year but I am especially all over the Leather and Cable Gloves (£20) and the Unicorn Print Pyjama Set (£24) from Asos as well as the Sheepy Trim Robe (£26) from Next. I am also lusting after everything in my recent nightwear post which you can find here.

I do love a good candle or two and The White Company Winter Botanical Pillar Candle (£20) which boasts the aromas of cinnamon, cloves and oranges sounds beautiful. Does that not just scream of Christmas?! Talking about scents, I haven’t owned a bottle of Dolce and Gabbana Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau de Toilette (£50) since I was about 19 so when I was in Boots the other day I picked up a little tester bottle and fell head over heels again. I actually forgot how gorgeous and crisp this was with its beautiful apple, jasmine and musk notes.

The only extravagant thing I have in my wish list are these incredibly beautiful Sephora Double Ended Makeup Brushes ($74), they are gorgeous and I must have them! I might wait until the sales though and buy them myself as they are a little pricey and I would rather more small things ha-ha.

So, that’s all we have in the old Christmas Wish List this year. It might look like a lot, but to be honest, it’s quite small and everything is relatively cheap other than the brushes and perfume. None of the makeup gift sets have excited me this year apart from the Benefit Dolly Darling Gift Set (£44.50) cause it looks cute as fuck but nothing else has stood out for me.

I hope you enjoyed that and it has given you some ideas for any loved ones in your life, or your wish list!

Hi guys,

I went a little nuts in Lush a few weeks ago, as you do, and bought almost everything they had, I was only in for a birthday and Christmas gift and instead, I ended up with a fully stocked bathroom ha-ha. I do love Lush and their Christmas range is always on point so I picked myself up a lot of bath products as well as a few face masks to combat my oily/sensitive skin at this time of year. I wanted to buy products I hadn’t tried previously so these are the ones I went for in the end.

Bubble Bars
The first thing I reached for was The Christmas Penguin (£3.95) which has scents of Sicilian lemon, mandarin oils and sweet bergamot. I then bought Santasaurus (£5.95) which is a reusable bubble bar and also contains bergamot and orange scents. This creates a gorgeous green toned bath which smells wonderful! Snowie (£4.25) is the one I was most looking forward to as it is so damn cute! I also love anything that contains rose and grapefruit oils as they tend to be very sensual but also refreshing.

Bath Bombs
I got a whole load of bath bombs from this years range, some of which I didn’t photograph as I popped them into a bath immediately ha-ha. I was a little surprised at the prices of the bath bombs this year to be honest, I can’t remember them being this expensive last year, but that’s the joy of inflation eh? Anyway, I bought Mistletoe (£4.25) which is a gorgeous pink and green bath bomb that boasts of Jasmine and Ylang Ylang and also Frozen (£4.25) which is one of my all-time favourites. I then wanted to try the Luxury Lush Pud (£4.25), Never Mind the Ballistics (£4.25), So White (£3.75) and Shoot for the Stars (£4.25) as I’ve never bought them before. I was a little disappointed with So White and Never Mind the Ballistics as they weren’t as strong as I would have liked and the scents weren’t as great as everything else but that is my preferences, you may love em!

Face Masks
I am a huge fan of Lush face masks and I think I have tried the majority of them but since I am a coffee fiend, I decided to go for Cup 'o' Coffee (£6.75) as this acts as an exfoliator which promises soft skin. I have been loving this as it’s very sweet due to its vanilla and agave ingredients but it also contains kaolin which is great for oily, blemish prone skin. I then spotted Rosy Cheeks (£6.95) which I was over the moon at, as I tried buying this last year but it was sold out! This contains rose, kaolin and calamine which calms the skin as well as nourishes, cleanses and tones.

Shower Gel
I was extremely naughty and purchased copious amounts of Rose Jam Shower Gel (from £4.95) as I am obsessed! Ever since I tried the Rose Jam Bubbleroon (£3.95), I have wanted nothing else from my shower and bath experience other than rose scents. This is very strong and it leaves my skin smelling of roses for the longest damn time. An absolute must have!

The last thing I picked up was A French Kiss (£4.25) which is the most relaxing and calming bath product I have ever tried from Lush. This is an oldie, but by God is it a goodie. If you need a stress free environment and something to help you sleep, I would highly recommend this angel.

So there we have it folks, my recent birthday and Christmas shopping spree turned into a selfish shopping spree for myself... I regret nothing!

What have you been buying from Lush?
Would you recommend something from another company?
